Ingredients

1 lb ground beef
1 tbsp olive oil; or vegtable oil or butter
1/3 cup green pepper; diced
1 small onion; diced
2 clove garlic; minced
15 oz tomato sauce
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce; to taste
4 tbsp dark brown sugar
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp red pepper flakes
salt; to taste
pepper; to taste

Optional:
cole slaw; see Creamy Cole Slaw
buns; toasted

Directions

1. In a bowl, combine the Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, cumin, tomato sauce and red pepper flakes. Mix well.

2. Place a large skillet over medium/high heat. Add olive oil and ground beef. Saute the beef for about 5 minutes until cooked through and no longer pink, breaking it up with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper.

3. Add in diced peppers and onions. Cook another 5 minutes until they are tender and beef is browned.

4. Add the minced garlic and saute 30 seconds until fragrant, stirring constantly.

5. Add the sauce and bring to a light boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 10 to 15 minutes or until thickened to your liking.

6. Season to taste with salt and pepper and add water if you prefer a looser consistency.

Serve on toasted buns with coleslaw (optional).
